In Memoriam: Mike Chandler

Mr. Michael Chandler, MS in Management ’78, passed away in October 2024. Mike was an avid supporter of the students, programs and initiatives at the Naval Postgraduate School.

Mike joined the Naval Postgraduate School Foundation Board of Trustees in 2006. He served as Development Committee Chair from 2006 to 2017 and as Program Committee Chair from 2015 to 2017. Mike was heavily involved with the America’s Heroes Charity Golf Dinner & Tournament from 2008 to 2019. He and his wife, Susie, hosted a VIP reception the night before the America's Heroes Golf Tournament for several years starting in 2009.

Mike was the former President of General Dynamics Information Technology, where he led 16,000 professionals that provided systems integration, information technology, systems engineering and professional services to customers in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, federal civil and commercial sectors. He also served as President of General Dynamics Network Systems, President of General Dynamics Worldwide Telecommunications Systems, and a director for CALIENT Technologies.

Prior to his work in the private sector, Mike served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring with the rank of Commander. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University and his MS in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School. He also graduated from the Stanford University Executive Program.

In addition to supporting NPS and the NPS Foundation, Mike volunteered his time on the Board of Directors of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association and the Information Technology Association of America.
